A natural gas main break in northwest Katy led residents and businesses to shelter indoors for about 3½ hours on Friday, Oct. 30. The break occurred near Morton Ranch Road and Bridge Lake Boulevard, east of the Grand Parkway, and closed Morton Ranch Road in both directions.
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 issued a shelter-in-place advisory around 10:30 a.m. for homes and businesses within a half-mile radius. Residents were told to stay inside with windows and doors closed. The department confirmed at 1:15 p.m. that the advisory and road closure remained in place. It announced the all-clear at 2:06 p.m.
As of Saturday morning, officials had not publicly identified what caused the break or confirmed whether nearby construction was involved. ESD 48 thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as crews worked on the break. Covering Katy said it is seeking more information and will update its story if new details become available.
