Hundreds of people gathered Friday at Aggie Park on the Texas A&M campus in College Station to support Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, days before Election Day. Local Democrats running for office joined him, as did Bryan Mayor Pro Tem James Edge, a Republican. The Brazos County Republican Party recently condemned Edge for endorsing Talarico.
Talarico focused on the economy, citing the higher cost of living and what he said are the negative effects of data centers on Texans. He also spoke against Elon Musk. "We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption crisis," Talarico said. "But A&M, A&M we can change that."
His opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton, has spent the past week traveling the state on his "Come and Take It Tour." Paxton visited downtown Bryan last month and introduced his Protecting the Texas Promise plan. He said the plan would return thousands of dollars to Texans, including a $20,000 deduction for out-of-pocket medical costs and an additional $25,000 for each dependent.
KBTX reporter Karla Castillo interviewed Talarico after the rally. The interview will air on KBTX and be posted online this weekend.
