Shoe repair shops once numbered about 120,000 at their peak during the Great Depression, a report said. Fewer than 3,500 remain, according to the same report.
A few of those shops are in Southeast Texas. They are owned and operated by a father and son, who continue the family trade. The report named Quality Shoe Repair as one of the businesses.
