Democratic nominee James Talarico spoke with KBTX at Texas A&M University on Saturday about rural health care, cost of living, federal research funding and data centers. The station reported that polls show a tight race.
Republican nominee and Attorney General Ken Paxton has spent the past week traveling the state on his "Come and Take It Tour." Last month in Bryan, he unveiled a plan he said would give families thousands of dollars. Paxton said it would create a $20,000 deduction for out-of-pocket medical costs and an additional $25,000 for each dependent.
Talarico said he wants to represent all Texans, regardless of party. He said he wants to keep rural schools and hospitals open and opposed a voucher program he described as draining tax dollars from rural schools. He also proposed that data centers not be built unless they meet local demands, pay for their own energy, recycle their water and gain residents' consent. Talarico also said Paxton has accepted nearly half a million dollars from data center interests.
