A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper rescued an injured owl while giving an elderly couple a ride home, according to a Facebook post from the DPS West Texas Region. The trooper found the owl along State Highway 118, southbound toward Terlingua, the post said.

The trooper named the owl "Walker" after it tried to walk away from him, a reference to the TV show "Walker, Texas Ranger." The trooper secured the owl and took it to the Alpine Highway Patrol office, where a Fort Davis wildlife biologist picked it up, DPS said.

The owl was taken to Midland for further evaluation and then to El Paso for rehabilitation. The post described the rescue as another owl rescue by a DPS trooper.
