Lubbock-area forecasters expect a mostly dry day across the South Plains, with a few lingering showers in the northern part of the area during the morning. Low clouds are expected to clear before noon, and highs are forecast mainly in the 70s.
The main concern is wind. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph, strongest near the Texas and New Mexico state line. The forecast says these winds fall just short of wind advisory criteria but could still affect travel and outdoor activities.
Spotty afternoon showers are possible over the Panhandle, while precipitation on the South Plains should be isolated at best. Winds are expected to ease Monday evening as they shift to the north behind a cold front. Cooler, drier conditions are forecast to continue through the rest of the week.
