Dickinson beat Humble Summer Creek 25-22, 11-25, 25-12, 25-16 on Friday at Channelview in a 6A Region III Division 1 bi-district volleyball match. The Lady Gators will play Pearland Dawson in the area round. Summer Creek won the second set 25-11, scoring 17 of the final 20 points. It then led 7-1 early in the third set before Dickinson scored the next 13 points.
Dickinson coach Kati Farias said her team called a timeout, reset and focused on playing its own game. She said the team got its passing and offense back on track through serve receive, serving and setting. Farias also said first playoff game nerves played a role in the second set. Rebecca Ajong recorded three of the last four Dickinson points to close the match.
Farias said the Gators were able to run all of their offensive options in the third and fourth sets. She said the hitters mixed up their shots to keep the Summer Creek defense off balance.
