Lake Belton beat Chaparral 42-0 on Friday night in District 12-6A play. It was the Broncos' first shutout of the season and the fewest points they have allowed this year. Lake head coach Kirk Rogers called it the team's best effort of the season and said the defense responded well.

Quarterback Jessiah James completed 12 of 14 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns, according to the team. Senior receiver Zion Harness caught four passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Lake finished with 352 yards of offense. The Broncos are 5-4 overall and 2-3 in district play. Chaparral fell to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in district. Bryson Coleman was 15-of-31 passing for 142 yards and an interception for the Bobcats.

Lake is tied with Temple for the district's fourth and final playoff spot. The Broncos play at Copperas Cove on Thursday. To reach the postseason, they need to win by at least seven points or have Temple lose to Chaparral next week. Rogers said the team must prepare well for the game.
