The Texas Scorpions of the Colonial Hockey League lost 6-3 to the New York Fire Department hockey team Friday night at the StarCenter Multisport in Northlake. The Scorpions, a family-owned team based in Flower Mound, gave up three goals in the first period. The game drew a sold-out crowd that included first responders, local officials and families.

Head coach and owner Daniel Mignault said the turnout was big for a new team. "We wanted to get a win for them tonight. That didn't happen, but we put on the best show we possibly could, and it's only going to get better from here," he said. The crowd was loudest when the Scorpions scored the first goal in franchise history and during a fight in the second period.

Mignault said FDNY is a physical team and that his players did not let it get to them. He said the Scorpions stood their ground when FDNY players pushed too hard. After contact between the teams near Scorpions goalie, captain and owner Danny Mignault, punches were thrown and several players fell to the ice. Penalties were assessed after the game was stopped.
