The Texas Legislature convenes Jan. 12, 2027, for its biennial session. Tuesday's election results mean a Democrat will serve as governor, the first time since the 1993 session, and as lieutenant governor, presiding over the Texas Senate, the first time since the 1997 session. Democrats are projected to gain control of the Texas House, and Republicans are expected to keep their Senate majority.

LifeLong Learning's "Potpourri of Presentations" series will end with a session on the 2027 legislative session at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the San Marcos Public Library. The organization said participants will get an inside look at the 140-day session, a preview of major issues likely to be on the agenda, and tips on communicating with legislators and their staff. Registration is requested for room setup.

The presenter, Stephanie Korcheck, is director of LifeLong Learning. She served in state government from 1992 to 2000, including as a policy analyst for the Texas Senate Education Committee and as the first director of policy and planning for the State Board for Educator Certification. The organization said she helped draft and negotiate the state's public school accountability and finance systems in 1993.

"This is a defining moment in Texas politics and policymaking," Korcheck said. Marianne Reese, LifeLong Learning's founder and senior advisor, called Korcheck's insight and experience "deeply admirable" and encouraged residents who want to be more informed and involved citizens to attend.
