East Texas teens bowled in costumes at the "Monster Bowl" in Tyler, a fundraiser for the Junior Symphony League of Tyler. The event included pizza, candy and bowling. The league requires each member to collect $50 in pledges. The money goes to East Texas Youth Music.

The league said 60% of the money goes to the East Texas Youth Orchestra. The other 40% funds music scholarships through the Women's Symphony League. Most league members are not in the orchestra.

Christie Schultz, the league's co-vice president-elect, said the league wants all members involved so they learn to give back to their community and support local artists. Sam Vogler, a league member who plays violin in the orchestra, said the fundraiser helps young musicians get the experience they need. Michael Watson, a league member who plays cello in the orchestra, said working concerts for the East Texas Symphony Orchestra is teaching him about stage presence and playing style.
