Democrats won a majority of governorships and state legislative chambers in Tuesday's midterm elections, according to the reporting. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee said Wednesday that its tracking showed the party had flipped 12 chambers so far. The committee said in a news release that the results were the party's best performance since the Watergate scandal.

Unofficial results show Democrats will control the Arizona legislature for the first time in 60 years. Democrats are also poised to take control of the Texas House for the first time in over 20 years, following a sweep of statewide races. Many legislative races had not been called by midday Wednesday.

The National Conference of State Legislatures said current results show Democrats would secure trifectas, meaning control of both chambers and the governor's office, in Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The group also said Democrats broke Republican trifectas in Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and Texas.
