Stanton is 5-4 this season after going 1-9 last year, and the Buffaloes are undefeated in district play. They are one win away from the 3A-DII District 4 title. Sophomore tailback Karter Barrera has been a key contributor all season. In Week 10, he totaled over 140 yards and three touchdowns in a victory over Crane. Rain fell for nearly the entire game and left the field wet.
Barrera said he enjoys playing in the rain. "The weather just came in our favor. It was just an experience," he said. He credited the offense and coaches for their trust and said the team's turnaround has been a team effort.
Barrera has been a Buffalo fan his whole life and is in his first season as a starter. "I always dreamed of playing on that field on Friday nights," he said. The Buffaloes finish the regular season Friday at 7 p.m. against Coahoma. Barrera said the team wants to win district and make a deep playoff run.
