Smith County Republican Party Chairman David Stein released a statement after Tuesday's election, in which Democrats gained control of the Texas House of Representatives and other statewide offices.
In a statement Wednesday, Stein wrote that statewide and national results were not what Republicans had expected. "A message was sent; it will be reviewed and responded to," he wrote. He said he did not feel one issue or candidate shaped the outcome, and he said he would share more thoughts after assessing the results and speaking with peers and voters.
Stein also congratulated Smith County's winning candidates, saying the party had strong support on the ballot. He said the county continues to show it can lead by example with conservative leadership and common-sense values.
