Wayland Baptist University is closing its Amarillo campus, which opened 50 years ago to serve non-traditional students, according to KFDA. The university said the change is driven by market changes. Under the plan, the campus will no longer enroll new students starting Wednesday. A teach-out, scheduled to begin Dec. 31, 2026, will help currently enrolled students finish their degrees. The Amarillo location will move primarily to online instruction.

University officials said closing the physical location will not change degree requirements, curriculum or progress toward graduation. Advising staff will review each student's remaining requirements, course availability, expected completion time and changes to how courses are taught. Dr. Christy Reed, Lubbock Campus Dean, is overseeing the process. Academic and financial aid advising will be provided through the Lubbock campus, by in-person appointment, phone, virtual meeting or email.

University President Dr. Donna Hedgepath said the school's priority is helping each student understand their options and build a clear plan to complete their degree. Students with questions can contact Reed at (806) 742-9515 or reedc@wbu.edu.
