State Rep. Jay Dean (R-Longview) said the results were "a bloodbath in some cases." Dean has worked with state Rep. Vikki Goodwin (D-Austin) on the Texas House Committee on Insurance. "I think she'll do a good job," Dean said. He said the Senate kept its Republican majority and that the citizens sent a message that they want lawmakers to work together.
State Rep. Joanne Shofner (R-Nacogdoches) said Republicans are focused on protecting East Texas and fighting for local residents.
State Rep. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant) said he disagrees with Goodwin and state Rep. Gina Hinojosa (D-Austin) on various issues. He said the two are far from East Texas, calling them "pretty radical, far-left Democrats." Hefner also said that because Republicans hold the Senate, every bill must pass both chambers before it goes to the governor.
