The Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District and Healthcare Foundation broke ground Wednesday on a new 60-bed long-term care facility in Dalhart. The facility is named The Rahll and will offer skilled nursing and memory care. Melissa Bundy, CEO of the hospital district, called it a monumental moment for Dalhart and surrounding communities. The project is estimated at about $24 million.
The Rahll will have 43 nursing beds and 17 memory care beds, all in private rooms with private bathrooms. Plans include physical, occupational and speech therapy, hospice offices, three tornado-safe rooms, outdoor courtyards and shared dining and activity spaces. The building can add 30 more rooms as demand grows. Bundy said the project could create 15 to 30 jobs and offer learning opportunities for nursing students.
The project is supported by the "More Than A Home" capital campaign. It began after a $10 million pledge from Gene and Louise Rahll, who asked the community to raise an additional $5 million. Bundy said the campaign's earlier efforts came close to its initial $17 million goal, and that about $4 million in additional funding is still needed.
