Eight Comstock Panthers and one Del Rio Ram will compete at the University Interscholastic League State Cross Country Championships in Round Rock. The meet is set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, at Old Settlers Park. Del Rio will run Friday and Comstock will run Saturday.
The Panthers earned their state spot with a second-place finish at the Region IV Class 1A championships in Corpus Christi. Freshman Fernanda Lopez also qualified individually in the girls' division. Seven Comstock boys will compete at state.
Comstock coach Lee Abbey said his main goal is keeping the runners healthy, with allergies and illness the biggest concerns before Saturday. The Panthers won the Class 1A boys' team state title in 2024. Abbey's team is seeking a second boys' team championship this year.
