Bangs (5-4, 2-2) hosts Johnson City (5-4, 2-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium in the final regular-season game. A loss to San Saba last week ended the Dragons' chance at the second seed, but a win would still secure the third seed. Under that scenario, Bangs would face Valley Mills, Italy or Bosqueville in the bi-district round. A loss would put the Dragons against District 8 champion Axtell, which is 9-0 and ranked third.
Bangs lost 20-13 at San Saba last week. The Dragons outgained the Armadillos 289 to 191 in total yards, but two turnovers decided the game, the team said. Head coach Colton Buzzard said the matchup is important for seeding and called it a playoff-style game.
Johnson City rallied from a three-touchdown deficit last week to beat Coleman 37-22. Buzzard said Bangs has not faced the Eagles in a long time and warned that their offense is difficult to defend if players get confused. Johnson City's leading players include quarterbacks Truett Fry and Wyatt Lorenzen and running backs Cody Spence and Heston Hohenberger. Bangs averages 32 points and 362 yards per game, led by running back Connor Bible, who has 1,167 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, and quarterback Ryder Duncan.
