Incumbent Karen Phillips and write-in candidate Terry Morrow are running for Smith County Clerk in the Nov. 3 General Election. The Tyler Morning Telegraph interviewed each candidate about their background, skills and priorities.

The county clerk is the chief record keeper for the County Court, Commissioners Court and three County Court-at-Law, according to Smith County's website. The position is a four-year term with no term limits.

Morrow was disqualified from the Republican ballot after errors in signatures on her original petition for the March primaries, the story said, and she is now running as a declared write-in candidate. Phillips, a native of Tyler, has served as county clerk for over 15 years and is seeking re-election. She describes herself as an ultra-conservative focused on fiscal responsibility, efficiency, public service and Christian faith.
