Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller on Friday called for the immediate resignation of Republican Party of Texas Chair D'Rinda Randall. Miller's office released a statement after Tuesday's election, which the statement said saw Republicans lose every statewide race on the ballot, control of the Texas House, and the majority on the State Board of Education.
The statement said a Democratic takeover of the House would put the chamber on course to elect its first Democratic speaker since 2003. Miller said he repeatedly told Randall about voter concerns, including over data centers and proposed 765-kV transmission lines. He said Randall argued that the data center issue was less important than the social issues she was focused on. Miller said he had urged Randall to encourage Republican candidates to address those concerns publicly.
Miller also said he repeatedly asked Governor Greg Abbott to suspend the state motor fuels tax by executive order, and that Abbott refused. Miller said Tuesday's results showed a breakdown between Republican leadership and voters. He said a statement from Randall did not accept responsibility for the party's loss.
