The Dallas Police Department had 3,427 sworn officers as of October 27, according to a newly released police memorandum. That is 573 below the 4,000-officer minimum voters approved under Proposition U in November 2024. The department's previous year-end update reported 3,447 officers.

The memo was prepared by April L. Idleburg, assistant director of human resources and talent development. It says 82 applicants were processed from October 1 through October 27, compared with 230 in the prior-year period the department cited. The department said its move to Workday had created difficulties and that it was "off to a slow start."

The department reported 378 sworn officers hired in fiscal 2025–2026, above its target of 350. The memo also says 290 recruits were in the academy as of October 27. According to the documents, they do not provide a full account of hiring, departures and other roster changes.

The figures are on the agenda for the Dallas City Council Public Safety Committee's meeting on Monday, November 9. The committee is not scheduled to vote on Proposition U compliance.
