Presidio County Sheriff's deputies recovered a stolen 2025 Toyota RAV4 from a yard after a joint operation with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Presidio, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation began with information the sheriff's office received about stolen vehicles being moved through the Presidio area. The sheriff's office said law enforcement agencies in multiple states have been sharing information on stolen vehicle activity. The vehicle came from New York City and had been cloned with the intent to export it to Mexico.
The sheriff's office said potential criminal charges will depend on the findings and outcome of the investigation. It said it will keep investigating suspicious activity and work with local, state and federal partners on vehicle theft and other crime in the region.
