Democrats won several statewide races in Texas on Tuesday, including a U.S. Senate seat and the governor's office. Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton, the state's attorney general, in the Senate race. Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeated Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. If she takes office, she will be the first Latina governor of Texas. Democrats also won the lieutenant governor and attorney general offices. Texas Democrats had not won a statewide race since 1994.

The report said voters were frustrated over high prices and concerned about government corruption. Democrats also won back counties along the border with Mexico and flipped some congressional seats, even though Republicans had redrawn the district map.

"This win is for every Texan who has ever wondered if anyone is ever listening," Talarico said. "I heard you. We heard you." Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote on social media that a Democratic sweep of statewide races in Texas was "a huge loss" for Republicans. Hinojosa is a state legislator who represents a district in Austin.
