Democrat Luz Elena Chapa won the Bexar County District Attorney race with 61% of the vote, or 388,364 votes, according to results with 100% of precincts reporting. Republican Ashley Foster received 34%, or 216,605 votes, and independent Jason Wolff received 5%, or 29,093 votes. The report said Chapa is the first Latina elected to the position.
Chapa said one of her first priorities will be the backlog of cases in the district attorney's office. She said her office will form a strike team and review cases one by one, and that an audit will be done to determine what is in the backlog. She also said she is honored by the win.
In the Bexar County Judge race, former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg defeated Republican Patrick Von Dohlen, with 67% of the vote to Von Dohlen's 33%. Nirenberg received more than 427,000 votes and Von Dohlen received nearly 215,000. Nirenberg will replace outgoing County Judge Peter Sakai.
