Dozens of Plano residents gathered at a church one Tuesday night to hear leaders of the Stop the Stars Arena committee argue against Proposition A. Karen Dubrow, a committee leader, said an arena would not fit in the Willow Bend area.
Proposition A asks voters to approve a set of venue taxes to help fund a city-owned arena. Plano plans to lease the arena to the Dallas Stars for about 30 years after the team's Dallas lease expires in 2031. The team is preparing to move from the American Airlines Center to the current site of The Shops at Willow Bend.
Jody Venturoni read a poem she wrote at the meeting that said the arena would be self-funded but that taxpayers would end up paying the bill. Early voting for the election is set to begin soon.
