A Travis County District judge, Jan Soifer, on Tuesday ordered a representative of the Texas Transgender Student Union to answer questions under oath later this week. The group was registered last month in Wyoming and has a mailing address linked to a post office box in Houston, the story says.

The Transgender Education Network of Texas, known as TENT, requested the deposition. TENT said the mailers were worded to appear to come from its organization, and that the mailers led to a backlash that included threats of violence. TENT is also trying to identify who sent text messages that linked to its website but did not come from the group. The texts began arriving on phones across Texas on Oct. 12.

Soifer also ordered Infobip, a messaging company whose client sent the texts, to answer written deposition questions. TENT had earlier sent Infobip a cease and desist letter demanding that it stop the texts and identify its client.
