The Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization presented ideas on Wednesday for making University Drive and South College Avenue safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. The intersections are among the busiest in College Station, near Texas A&M. The ideas were shared at a transportation committee meeting with the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce.

MPO Executive Director Daniel Rudge said the agency is concerned about fatalities between bicyclists, pedestrians and automobiles on University Drive. Ideas include grade separations, such as bridges and tunnels, to keep vehicles and pedestrians apart. The price is $200 million, and the project is still in the planning phase. Rudge said the MPO does not expect the money to come from the MPO, the local governments or the Texas Department of Transportation. He said consultants are working on a financing plan.

Transportation Committee Chairman Douglas Bramwell said he appreciated hearing the options. The MPO will hold a public meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Legends Event Center.
