Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko said Wednesday that Marcel Reed is still the Aggies' starting quarterback. Elko spoke during a Southeastern Conference coaches teleconference during the team's open week.

Elko said the team will do what it believes is right to win on Saturdays. After the loss at Alabama, the staff considered bringing in backup Brady Hart after Reed threw his second interception in his first three passes, Elko said. Reed stayed in the game and played what Elko called some of the senior's best football of the season. Texas A&M lost 31-20 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

According to Pro Football Focus, Reed's passing grade of 57.8 ranks 25th from last among Football Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks. He has 1,388 passing yards, 13th among SEC quarterbacks, and has thrown eight touchdown passes and eight interceptions this season. His 56.8% completion rate ranks 19th among 20 ranked SEC passers.

"There's a lot that Marcel can improve on, for sure," Elko said. "He knows that. But we have to get better as an offense."
