The Longview Housing Agency has launched the "Help House a Veteran" campaign to raise awareness of housing benefits available to military veterans. The campaign focuses on the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program, aims to recruit more landlords and housing partners, and highlights veterans who have made significant progress toward housing stability. Officials said the effort is supported by newly awarded HUD-VASH administrative funding, according to a news release.
The agency will host a HUD-VASH Landlord Recruitment Luncheon from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Longview Chamber of Commerce, 410 N. Center St. The event is for landlords, property managers, property owners, developers and other housing partners. Attendees can learn about the program, speak with agency and VA representatives, ask about the leasing process and learn about becoming a HUD-VASH landlord. Lunch will be provided.
According to the agency, participating landlords receive timely subsidized rental payments, ongoing VA case management support for participating veterans and guidance from the housing agency during leasing. Officials said they hope more housing providers will help reduce barriers to housing and create more options for veterans. The campaign will continue at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 with another HUD-VASH event.
