Republican Ken Paxton rallied supporters Saturday in Fort Worth, and Democrat James Talarico spoke later before a crowd in Houston. The events sent the candidates into the last weekend of the Texas Senate race, which could help decide partisan control of the U.S. Senate.

Paxton said the race could be decided by a narrow margin and urged supporters to recruit voters in the remaining days. He spoke at Cullen Yards, a restored 1950s industrial warehouse in Fort Worth. Paxton said Talarico backs policies that would hurt the state's economy and conservative values. He also said he understood voters' frustrations over the rising cost of living.

More than 7.1 million ballots were cast in person during early voting, a record for a nonpresidential election year, according to the report. Voters will go to the polls Tuesday.
