Winnsboro City Park was filled with trucks, livestock trailers and hundreds of exhibitors, handlers and spectators on Saturday, Oct. 31, for the 56th annual Jack Cross Memorial Livestock Show. The event was held at the Jack Cross Pavilion at the park. Participants came from across Texas and neighboring states.

The show began at 9 a.m. with peewee showmanship, where young handlers led animals up to ten times heavier than they were. Competition continued through junior, intermediate and senior beef cattle divisions. To keep the schedule moving, ring officials used three arenas for dairy cattle, meat goats and lambs, British and exotic cattle, and American breeds.

Langston Welch of the Van FFA chapter took supreme champion bull with Mafia Made, a registered Maine-Anjou/Maintainer bull bred by BGR Livestock and owned by Garrett and Morgan Ragan. In the dairy division, Wes Davis earned junior champion dairy showmanship and supreme dairy heifer, and Addyson Koon earned senior champion dairy showmanship. Jordyn Green won the champion American steer banner, and Kooper Dennie took intermediate champion showmanship in the lamb competition.

The annual show honors Jack and Hazel Cross, longtime agricultural advocates in the Winnsboro farming and ranching community. The event gives area youth a chance to build showmanship, sportsmanship and livestock care skills.
