The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office identified two of the victims as 21-year-old Kaniesa Scott and 28-year-old Unique Elise Benjamin. Medical examiner records show Scott was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m. Sunday at Baylor University Medical Center. Benjamin died in the roadway in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street.

Police said the shootings happened over about 75 minutes at three separate scenes in the Deep Ellum nightlife area. The first was reported around 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Elm Street, followed by one at about 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main Street and one at roughly 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street.

Dallas police Chief Daniel Comeaux said about 15 people were injured and that the count remains fluid, because several victims went to local hospitals on their own. Comeaux said officers stationed less than two blocks away ran toward the gunfire and performed lifesaving measures, reviving at least one victim. Mayor Eric L. Johnson called the violence "unacceptable" in a statement Sunday.
