Leif Johnson Ford agreed to pay the Lake Travis school district $92,000 per year for five years to sponsor the field, according to documents obtained by the Austin American-Statesman. The field is now called Leif Johnson Ford Field at Cavalier Stadium. The documents also show the dealer paid $25,000 in initial costs to design and install the signage. The renamed facility hosted its first game on Oct. 9.
Under the contract, the dealer will also give $10,000 in scholarships each year to Lake Travis students during the deal. That will be either four awards of $2,500 or two awards of $5,000. The sponsorship came as the stadium underwent a renovation funded by a $48.3 million package. The work raised the stadium's capacity to 11,090, an increase of nearly 4,000 seats. The project includes new gameday locker rooms, upgraded concessions and a women's sports field house. The district said the full project will not be finished for months.
Lake Travis chose the dealer through an open proposal process. The district advertised twice in the Statesman, posted the opportunity on its website and invited 19 companies to take part, documents show. The minimum required was $40,000 per year. The school board approved the dealership as sponsor on June 17, 2026. Jeff Buhl, president of Leif Johnson Ford, said in a press release that the company is proud to partner with the district on the stadium's next chapter.
