Texas Department of Public Safety troopers will hand out safe driving tips during traffic stops for two weeks, starting Nov. 6, the agency said.

TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams said, "Everyone has so many reasons why they want to get home safely. Remember, so does every driver around you." TxDOT said one person has died on Texas roads every day since Nov. 7, 2000, and more than 95,000 people have been killed in traffic crashes since then. Texas recorded 3,763 traffic deaths in 2025, down nearly 10% from 4,162 in 2024.

In the Atlanta District, which includes Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus and Upshur counties, there were 6,130 traffic crashes in 2025. Those crashes resulted in 85 deaths and 344 serious injuries.

TxDOT said it is investing $16 billion in safety improvements through the state's 10-year plan. The projects include cable barriers, rumble strips and other design changes. The agency also said it is testing new tools, including automatic incident detection software, and building roundabouts, which it said can reduce intersection fatalities by 90%.
