City officials in Texarkana, Arkansas, will host a town hall meeting Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. at North Heights Community School, 2118 E. 35th St. The meeting will focus on a proposal to lease Millwood Lake water rights to a customer in Texas.
City Manager Tyler Richards advanced the proposal. It would allow the Southwest Arkansas Water District to pursue a 40-year lease of water rights held by Texarkana and other participating communities at Millwood Lake. The water would be used by a customer in North Texas.
Richards told the Texarkana, Arkansas, Board of Directors in October that the arrangement could generate $16 million to $20 million a year for the city. He said it could produce more than $1 billion over the 40-year term as prices increase.
