Multiple Flock license plate-reading cameras were damaged in Cypress, according to ABC13 Houston. Surveillance video shows a person using a power tool to take down one camera on Redoak Manor Lane around 2:30 a.m. Friday. A second camera on the same street was also cut down.
The Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office said it is investigating those two incidents and two more, one on Windhaven Lake Drive and one on Barker Cypress. The office said the cameras are owned by Harris County MUD 165. The utility district did not respond to an email asking who would pay for the damage. The solar panels on two of the cameras were stamped with the message "release the Epstein files."
Cypress resident Jeff Sciba said he is worried about the damage and said the cameras help deter and solve crimes. Resident Andrew Hotard said he can see both sides and that the cameras do not bother him much. Critics have raised concerns about how license plate data is used, and the report said multiple police officers have been investigated for misusing their Flock database access.
