Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko said Monday that backup quarterback Brady Hart has had many practice opportunities to show he is ready for more game action. Elko said Marcel Reed will remain the starter for the Aggies' 2 p.m. game Saturday at South Carolina. Elko said last week on an SEC coaches teleconference that keeping Reed in the role is the right move for winning.
Elko said Hart must reach a certain level before he gets more chances. Reed threw two interceptions in his first three attempts at Alabama, and Elko and his staff were close to a change, according to the story. Reed then found a rhythm in the second and third quarters.
Reed has completed 56.8% of his passes for 1,388 yards, with eight touchdown passes and eight interceptions, according to the story. Hart, a sophomore, has completed 57.1% of his passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns in 61 snaps this season. Elko said practice rotations between the first and second teams mean Hart has not needed more first-team reps.
