Students at PSJA Early College High School in San Juan honored legendary Latin American musicians on Monday, Nov. 2, with a Día de los Muertos altar titled "Un Homenaje a la Música – Amor Eterno." Several departments at the school took part, including modern language, fine arts, culinary arts, audio/visual production and graphic design. The school said the altar honors musicians whose work continues to matter to the community and across generations, and that music helps preserve culture and bring people together.

The altar includes a Catrina, a skeleton figure, that stands 20 feet tall. Students made it by hand from papier-mâché. Its dress was made from butcher paper, tulle and crepe paper flowers.

Members of the Mariachi Maravilla de San Juan performed a tribute to the musicians near the altar. A student also adjusted his mariachi hat before the performance.
