The Midland Development Corporation board heard a presentation from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center on the proposed Permian Basin Specialty Care Center in Midland. The board also considered several other items on its agenda.

Dr. Brian Schroeder, regional dean and professor at TTUHSC, told the board the center could benefit the community. He said patients do not want to drive more than six minutes to see their primary care doctor. Schroeder said the project aims to keep 175,000 patients in the Permian Basin and to reinvest money that would otherwise be lost to patients leaving the region.

According to the presentation, the center is expected to include ophthalmology operating rooms, 26 diagnostic, testing and multipurpose rooms, and other facilities. The projected completion date is 2030. Schroeder said he hopes to gain support for the project.
