Families gathered at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden on Nov. 1 to mark Día de los Muertos. Framed photos of loved ones were placed on an ofrenda, and attendee Angelica Galaso set down a picture of a relative during the event.

Folklórico dancers with face-painted skulls performed to the beat of Aztec drummers. Mariachi Amatitlan and Ballet Folklórico Uribe also performed, and young singers including 9-year-old Sofia Jimenez took part.

Sonia Hernandez, whose daughter Camila Hernandez dances folklórico, said the event gave families a chance to share their heritage. She said it also let people of many backgrounds learn about Hispanic culture. Hernandez said she wants her daughter to know that her roots are Hispanic.
