Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County has named Mitchell Ellis, 38, as its interim CEO, the faith-based nonprofit announced Nov. 2. The nonprofit provides services for homeless persons.

Ellis has served on the mission's board since 2024 and led its security initiatives, according to his biography on the mission's website. He told the Fort Worth Report that the board was seeking a leader to bring short-term stability to the organization. He expects to serve 90 to 180 days in the interim role and has not decided whether he would accept a long-term position.

Former chief executive Charles M. Wolford II mutually agreed to part ways with the organization in September, the mission said. Wolford had joined in 2024 after previous leader Don Shisler became CEO emeritus. The Fort Worth Report said it could not reach Wolford before publication.

Board chair Caroline Samis said Ellis's experience as a business owner and law enforcement officer brings valuable perspective to the role. She said the board was unanimous in its support of him.
