Fort Bend County voters went to the polls Tuesday hoping a technical problem from the May primary runoff does not happen again. Elections Administrator Chase Wilson said the problem affected every voting site and was caused by human error when an elections employee uploaded the wrong file. Records obtained by ABC13 showed it took three hours to fix, and some voters had to cast provisional ballots.
This summer, Wilson told ABC13 by email that the county added oversight and vendor safeguards, which he said would be in place by August and tested before the November election. He said the county took action regarding the employee through workflow reassignment and restructuring. Wilson also said he hopes to have a new voter registration system running by May. He did not respond to questions from ABC13 on Monday.
Voters interviewed by ABC13 said they hoped the problem had been fixed. Twila Lewis said she hoped officials would get it right this year, and Ese Ogbebor said they assumed there would be a line on Election Day.
