The inaugural H-Town basketball tip-off luncheon in Houston recognized 15 of the best boys' and girls' high school basketball players in the Houston area before the upcoming season. University of Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson highlighted the men's and women's college coaches from the area who attended.
Honorees included Isaiah Santos, a forward at Seven Lakes, who said he has committed to play at Minnesota next season. Alim Olajuwon, nephew of Hakeem Olajuwon, plays at Episcopal. Sidney Marshall of Kinkaid is playing her final high school season for her mother, head coach Stacy Marshall, before going to Georgia Tech.
BJ LaFell, a three-sport athlete, accepted his award on Wednesday. ABC13 reported that he caught two touchdowns and ran for another in a district-championship-clinching football win on Friday night. The girls' high school basketball season starts this Friday, and the boys' season starts a week later.
