An Elkhart man wanted in connection with the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend has been returned to the Anderson County Jail, according to jail records. Bruce Kenton Jeffers, 65, of Elkhart, was booked into the jail on Friday on a murder charge.
In June, Jeffers was arrested in Arizona after Texas authorities confirmed they were searching for him in connection with the shooting death of Joni Williams, 54, of Tennessee Colony. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said Jeffers was Williams's ex-boyfriend. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Jeffers had a gun at the time of his arrest.
After the June arrest, the sheriff's office planned to extradite Jeffers to Texas for violating bond conditions on an unrelated offense.
