Pastor Dennis Webb of Bear Creek Community Church in Irving said two briskets were missing a few weeks ago from the smoker he was using for an annual fundraising dinner. The dinner benefits the church's Many Helping Hands homeless ministry. Webb said security footage showed the meat was taken. The church gave the footage to the Irving Police Department, and a report was filed.
Days later, one of the men turned himself in to police and named his accomplice, according to the church. Police learned the men sold the two briskets. Webb said he is praying the men will change the course of their lives through the church's services. He said one officer told him the man was remorseful. Webb also said he would have the men complete 500 hours of community service on the church property.
Webb said a local radio show host interviewed him and later pledged 20 briskets to the church. The host delivered 10 briskets, which Webb said were used for a youth group fundraiser. Webb, a former firefighter and current city councilman, said the church started as a support group he began in his home.
