Buc-ee's is expected to open in Boerne in 2027. Local businesses with cartoon animal logos told The Boerne Star they are not concerned about possible trademark disputes with the convenience store chain. The report cites recent lawsuits against small businesses in Ohio and Texas. Buc-ee's is known for its beaver logo, called Bucky or Bucky Beaver.
Nick DiBartolomeo, chairman and CEO of Launch Hospitality, said the company does not see the recent trademark litigation as a concern for Pinchy's Lobster & Rawbar, at 250 River Road. He said animal imagery has been used by businesses across many industries for generations. He said Pinchy's logo dates back to 2021 and that the company has its own brand identity and trademarks.
DiBartolomeo said his company respects other businesses' intellectual property rights and expects the same in return. He said he expects Buc-ee's has documented evidence for its current litigation, and that the company will wait to see how the matter develops. The Dodging Duck and 28 Songs Brewhouse in Boerne declined to comment.
