The Breckenridge City Commission voted Tuesday night to hire an interim city manager and an interim police chief. City manager Cynthia Northrop announced last month that she will leave at the end of November. Police Chief Blake Johnson announced his retirement two days later, with his last day on Oct. 30.
During a closed executive session lasting two and a half hours, commissioners interviewed several candidates for each job by remote video. The interim city manager will be hired through the Texas First Group, and the interim police chief through Clear Career Professionals. Both firms provide interim professionals to local governments. The commission did not release the candidates' names during the meeting.
In an email Wednesday, Northrop said Vince DiPiazza will serve as the interim city manager. According to his LinkedIn page and news stories, DiPiazza has worked in city management for more than 40 years, most recently as city manager of Uvalde from 2015 until he resigned in 2025. He is scheduled to start Nov. 16. Brian Frieda will serve as interim police chief.
