Arlington Bowie senior safety Kaleb Phifer, who is deaf, has received 10 offers so far from Division I college football programs. He said he will consider the offers.
On Thursday, Phifer played his last game for Bowie. The team beat Sam Houston 35-10 to finish the season at 4-6. Phifer wears cochlear implants in both ears. He communicates on the field with sideline interpreter Tori Talor, who has worked with him since he was in the sixth grade. Talor said she is able to relay plays from the coaching staff through a microphone connected to the position coach.
Bowie head coach Joseph Sam said Phifer's story is a first for him. "You can coach him as hard as the other kids," Sam said. Phifer said, "You can do anything being deaf."
