Four people were killed and at least 15 were injured in three shootings in Dallas's Deep Ellum entertainment district on Halloween night. Police said David Yancy surrendered after seeing his picture on television. He is in custody for shooting seven of the people. Police are hoping to make more arrests.
The Deep Ellum Foundation held a listening session on Friday for residents, business owners and patrons. Dallas Police Chief David Comeaux, City Manager Kim Tolbert and Councilman Jeese Moreno attended to answer questions. Veronica Young, the foundation's marketing manager, said the community wanted to be heard, and that the topics raised included curfews and managing parking lots.
The foundation's executive director said enhanced security measures will be in place this weekend, the first since the shootings, to help keep patrons safe. The details of those plans were not released. Business owners said they were worried that violent crime would keep customers away. Herbert Wyatt, owner of Mokah Coffee and Tea, said he is looking for a long-term solution.
